Deluded Crawford Fans Still Hoping That Canelo Will Fight Him
Trainer Stephen Edwards believes 37-year-old junior middleweight Terence Crawford can move up two divisions and match Canelo Alvarez at 168 with his moves. He says Crawford can beat Canelo if he can move like he did when he fought Viktor Postol in 2016, which is physically impossible without a full body workout. a time machine.
Edwards feels that Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) will be a “comfortable” weight at 168, ready to move like he did when he was much younger and lighter against the leaner, slower Postol. He says Crawford can beat Canelo if he punches on the move like he did to Postol.
Edwards is a classic example of a Crawford fan who feels he’s infallible, can beat anyone with movement, and has limited offense on potshots. These Crawford fans do not want to accept that he is old, he reached his ceiling at 154 years old, and lost his motivation to fight the top fighters when he faced Israel Madrimov.
Can Crawford Find His Old Legs in 2016?
To back up his claim, Edwards notes a clip of Crawford circling the ring for about a minute against Postol before dropping him with one punch in what appears to be a brawl.
Crawford hasn’t moved like that in years, and showed very little movement in his latest fight at 154 against WBA junior middleweight champion Israel Madrimov on August 3.
In that fight, Crawford ate hard right hands from Madrimov all night and narrowly edged out a 12-round decision that could easily have gone the other way. Edwards says the reason Crawford didn’t move much is because he didn’t have to.
I’m not sure that’s true. It seems that age and unemployment have taken away Crawford’s age. He didn’t stop on purpose in that fight because he was getting hit harder than before, the fight went to the last three rounds.
Even though Crawford tried to fight the way he fought eight years ago when he defeated Postol, he failed. He wasn’t going to go through 12 rounds like that, especially if he was building up to fight at 168 against Canelo.
Stephen believes that Canelo may choose to fight Crawford. However, that may be wishful thinking. If Canelo sees old footage of the Terence vs. Postol fight, it’s doubtful he’ll fight him because, at 34, he won’t want to fight the runner. Canelo doesn’t fight guys who move a lot because he doesn’t like to fight guys his age.
Crawford, on the other hand, would not fight someone who treated him badly like David Benavidez because there would be no chance of winning.
Furthermore, this will be a no-win match for Canelo, where he won’t get the credit for beating Crawford, and will be criticized for his lack of work if he struggles to win or lose. It could be a similar situation for Crawford if he fights Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and is made to look bad in victory or defeat.
It is not surprising that Crawford showed no interest in fighting Boots because he has nothing to gain from that fight and nothing to lose. Crawford is more popular than Boots. He can be the one who takes everything out of the game. Canelo is more popular than Crawford, who is more popular among die-hard fans.
Who Will Meet Canelo’s $150M Price?
Canelo has said that he will not hold a fight with Crawford. So, there’s no point in talking about it unless someone meets the Mexican star’s asking price of $150 million. He wants that kind of money for the Crawford fight, and nobody in the world is willing to pay him that kind of money.
What Crawford needs to do is forget about Canelo and fight the guys at 154 who are willing to face him or give up.
You see how good Crawford was in walking, boxing and defending at the same time….this fight makes me know that he can fight in a style that would match Canelo. It fits perfectly. If he doesn’t get stopped, he will knock out ATG Canelo.
