Thiem has won five of his seven Lexus ATP Head2Head meetings against Federer. Their only tournament appearance came at the 2019 BNP Paribas Open, where the Austrian captured his only ATP Masters 1000 title.
“No matter what, you always found a way to beat me with your thunderous hands,” Federer wrote. “But most importantly, he did it with grace and sportsmanship.”
Nadal, who won their series 10-6 (Thiem won four on clay court) also posted an Instagram Story, saying the same thing as many: “Danke Domi”.
