A drone was ‘launched towards’ the home of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu
A drone has been launched to target Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in the coastal city of Caesarea, his office said.
“The prime minister and his wife were not in this area, no one was injured in this incident,” said the statement.
It comes after the Israeli military said three drones were launched into Israel from Lebanon on Saturday morning, one of which crashed into a building in Caesarea.
The Israeli government has not said whether the building was part of the Prime Minister’s residence or the extent of any damage.
At 08:19 local time (06:19 BST), the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said: “In the past hour, three unmanned aerial vehicles have crossed into the country from Lebanon.
“Two planes have been intercepted. The other plane crashed into a building in Caesarea, there were no injuries.”
Netanyahu uses two private houses, in Caesarea and Jerusalem, and has spent time in Beit Aghion, the prime minister’s official residence in Jerusalem, which is currently under renovation.
The IDF said 55 rockets had been launched into Israel from Lebanon so far on Saturday.
Israel continues to attack areas in Lebanon it says are linked to the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
The Ministry of Health in Lebanon said on Saturday that two people died in an Israeli strike in Jounieh, a city with a large Christian population north of Beirut.
This strike hit a car that was traveling on the highway, according to the media.
The attack is unusual as most of Israel’s operations so far have focused on Shia Muslim-majority areas where Hezbollah has a presence.
