Time-lapse photos capture the Northern Lights on the outskirts of the capital Reykjavik.
The lights, also known as the aurora borealis, occur when charged particles collide with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere around the magnetic poles. As they collide, light is emitted in different wavelengths, creating colorful displays in the sky.
Auroras are often seen in the polar regions, and are strongly influenced by geomagnetic storms from the Sun’s activity.
