Tyson Fury may book Oleksandr Usyk Rematch
Tyson Fury revealed on social media that he plans to add bulk to his frame with his rematch against heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In Fury’s last fight against Usyk, which he lost by split decision in 12 rounds, he weighed in at 262 lbs on May 18.
On social media, the 36-year-old Fury posted several photos, one of which is his 262 lb version against Usyk and another weighing 277 lbs in his trilogy match against Deontay Wilder on October 9, 2021. Fury spoke well. the way he looks at 277, which suggests he will add weight to his frame.
Unfortunately, it may not help Fury because he is 36 now, not the 33-year-old who fought Wilder in 2021. Also, Fury isn’t fighting a non-professional Wilder, who looked the better in the skills department of the three. of their fight.
The real problem is that Fury is older and not the fighter he was three to four years ago when he fought Wilder. It’s physically impossible for Fury to transform himself into the 277-lb behemoth that defeated Deontay in a hopeless loss because he’s too old. However, even that type of Fury would have problems for Usyk because he would be too slow and would make himself a target for a sharp counter.
Fighting passively is what saved Fury from getting knocked out by Usyk last May. That and the referee, who gave Fury eight standing points instead of calling off the fight in the ninth round when Usyk was seriously injured.
Fury is fighting Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), and he is a much better fighter than him. In addition, Usyk is light on his feet, quick, and agile. So, even if Fury bulks up to the high 270s, it won’t help him against Usyk. On the contrary, it will slow Fury down, making him more of a target to punch Usyk than the last time they fought.
“I was in the shape of my life, but this is not the Gypsy King,” Tyson Fury said on social media about the situation he was in during his fight with Oleksandr Usyk earlier this year on May 18.
“This is him, the 19st 11-lbs bruiser,” Fury said of the 277 lbs he weighed in for his third fight with Deontay Wilder.
Fury would be better off coming slow in the rematch with Usyk than surviving because he will need all the speed he can get to avoid getting hit.
