At this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Rory McIlroy has a lot going on. From playing alongside the honchos of the PGA Tour again PIF, to enjoy it with his father and his partner Gerry McIlroy, many distractions.
Those handicaps likely got the best of the four-time major champion at one time during Friday’s second round, when McIlroy set up an eagle try with a terrific drive and marked one of the Tour pro’s in the program.
Playing the par-4 14th hole at Kingsbarns on Friday, McIlroy decided to pull the driver and try to reach the green more than 300 yards in front of him.
And he did it. The star from Northern Ireland connected a perfect shot that rolled in front of the green and rolled into the putt, setting up a mid-range eagle putt.
One problem though. The green was vague.
Robert McIntyre, playing in the group ahead of McIlroy, was lining up his own putt on 14 when McIlroy’s ball bounced off the green and rolled away.
And the Scottish pro didn’t seem happy with the faux pas. MacIntyre stood up, turned to face the tee box as the announcers noted his displeasure at the situation.

But all’s well that ends well. Both McIlroy, who finished the day at six under, and MacIntyre, who finished at five under, birdied the 14th.
