Most fans see Berlanga as part of the ‘Bum of the Month’ team and think Canelo will knock him out quickly. If he defeats Mexican superstar Canelo, it would be one of the biggest upsets in sports history.

Berlanga Sr. You Want to Fight Fast

Berlanga Sr. he doesn’t want United super middleweight champion Canelo (61-2-2, 39 KOs) to run into the ring from Edgar (22-0, 17 KOs) because he wants the fight to end quickly next month.

Canelo is the favourite, and is expected to make easy work of the inexperienced 27-year-old Berlanga, who has been put in the position by his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom.

He signed Berlanga last year after he left Top Rank when they released slots for the main event after not doing well in a few games against lower ranked teams.

Hearn then worked with the WBA to get Berlanga the mandatory #1 spot by defeating British fighters Padraig McCrory and Jason Quigley.

Berlanga did not hold back to win this title, which was good for him because he could have lost if he had to go through Caleb Plant, Christian Mbilli, or Diego Pacheco.

“We respect him, but then he comes here to LA and thinks it’s him [top guy]. Canelo, we will take you out. Come to the first round and try to fight with us. Don’t run like you did,” said Edgar Berlanga Sr. on the Stomping Ground YouTube channel about WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez’s fight with champion Edgar Berlanga on September 14.

Canelo has reason to be confident going into this fight. He earned it through a long, successful career with many victories over famous fighters. You wouldn’t expect him to go into this fight with no confidence against a striker like Berlanga, who was picked for a reason. You lose.

“This is a battle we have been working on for 20 years. From a young age, we will be champions,” said Berlanga Sr. “We are not fighting alone. Berlanga Sr. Dares Canelo: “Come To The First Round And Try And Fight Us”. We fight for three. It should be four, but we are fighting for three. That’s a dream come true. It’s not like I’m dreaming about Canelo.”

Berlanga worked at a lower level during his eight-year tenure. He may have been fighting for 20 years, but his level of opposition in the pro ranks is soft.

Edgar’s latest opponents:

– Padraig McCrory
– Jason Quigley
– Traveler Alexis Angulo
– Steve Rolls
– Marcelo Esteban Coceres
– Demond Nicholson

“I’M so proud. We worked for this, and we got it. He is the one who is scared,” said Berlanga Sr., reacting to being told that Canelo said Edgar was scared. “Look when we touch him. He’s about to get even more scared.”

If Berlanga arrives, he will likely face one of Canelo’s left hooks, and that could be the end of the night for him. Berlanga showed weakness on the left hook. Coceres dropped him with a left hook, and Angulo hit him repeatedly with that punch.

Inheritance and Generational Wealth on the Line

“My son’s strength is on another level. Look. He will be talking about that. ‘Oh, Berlanga. When he touched me, my God. My body is shaking.’ It’s about legacy. After this we will beat Canelo and continue to do big fights,” said Berlanga Sr. when he was told that Edgar will receive production money if he defeats Canelo.

Like David Benavidez, Berlanga is big in the super middleweight division and should fight at 175. He will have to gain weight soon because he looks like 190 when he is not fighting. That’s huge in the super middleweight division.

“My name is important to me. Wherever I go, my name must be at the top. We will give victory to Puerto Ricans around the world because Puerto Rico is a small island, but it is big,” said Berlanga Sr.
