Canva Unveils New Tools, APIs, and Premium Apps
Canva announced new tools, APIs, and the launch of the Premium Apps program at the Canva Extend event.
These updates are designed to empower developers and expand the possibilities of building on the Canva platform. The announcement comes one year after the launch of the Canva Developer Platform, which has grown to include a global community of developers spanning 122 countries and more than 300 apps that have been used more than a billion times.
Important New Launches
Free Built-in Translation Services
Canva makes international collaboration easy by introducing built-in translation services. As part of the existing app review process, apps will be automatically translated into eight different languages, allowing developers to quickly scale their offerings around the world.
New APIs to Unlock Additional Application Capabilities
Canva is releasing new APIs to its Apps SDK, opening up new possibilities for developers:
- Content Query API (beta): Allows applications to read and update all the text on a page, increasing the possibilities of translation, AI assistants scripts, and more.
- Design Editing API (beta): Allows developers to build applications that can learn, add, or modify features within a design based on information.
- Tables API: Gives developers the ability to create applications with dynamic tables and text content in designs.
- Authentication API: Simplify the application authentication process by using the OAuth protocol.
Easy App Discovery
Canva has improved app visibility, allowing developers to display their apps in key areas throughout Canva’s UI. Applications can now appear in specific categories such as the image editing panel, the elements tab, and the text editing tab, making it easier for users to find them and integrate them into their workflow.
A new version of Premium Apps
Canva introduces a Premium Apps program that allows developers to monetize their apps by offering premium features and earning revenue based on user engagement. This move opens up new ways for developers to build sustainable businesses on Canva.
Canva Apps Marketplace
With access to 190 million active users, the updated Canva Apps SDK gives developers the opportunity to reach a global audience. By integrating directly into the Canva experience, apps can play a key role in how users design and create, giving developers access to a growing user base across multiple languages and devices.
Seamless Workflow with Canva’s Connect APIs
Canva’s Connect APIs simplify business workflows by enabling easy integration of Canva into existing systems. Recent mergers, such as Canva for Salesforceenable users to quickly generate content in the product using Salesforce data, streamline the process of creating presentations and audio elements.
Other platforms like HootSuite and Ray White have also integrated Canva’s Connect APIs, as well as cloud integration platforms like Workato, Zapier, and Make.
Coming soon: Leonardo AI APIs
Following Canva’s acquisition of Leonardo.Ai in July, Canva Extend subscribers will be the first to access Leonardo’s APIs for AI image generation. These APIs will allow developers to enhance their apps with AI-powered image creation, opening up new possibilities for app development in Canva.
