Chucky Is Canceled, But Don Mancini Says It’s ‘Coming Back’

Sad news late Friday for fans of Chucky, his signature USA/Syfy series Chuckyand horror comedy entertainment featuring sad, stabbing, knife-wielding puppets: Don Mancini’s show has been cancelled. That cliffhanger at the end of the third season is beginning to seem forever—even though Mancini, who first dreamed of Chucky in 1988. Child’s Playhe has an important takeaway: “He will come back!”

I’m talking to io9 before ChuckyThree episodes of the final season—what we now know ChuckyMancini’s last episodes he said he is “in the early days of negotiations” to do more. Child’s Play movie, something fans have been dreaming of since the 2019 reboot, that didn’t feature Mancini or Brad Dourif’s unique vocal stylings (sorry, Mark Hamill, but it wasn’t meant to be). Mancini’s last Chucky movie was in 2017 Chucky’s religion; The TV show premiered in 2021.

“[A new movie would be an] it’s an exciting, exciting business,” Mancini told io9 earlier this year. “I hope we will get another season of the game. I mean, I think both [the movie and the show] they are possible and both can live together there. My plan is to make everything make sense in terms of continuity and the overall fantasy of the world we’re building; we will not oppose anything.”

When asked if the new movie will carry over to the TV show, Mancini said, “Or maybe, if we get a fourth season, we’ll pick up on that news. And wherever we end up leaving the fourth season, that film may take over. I can’t say much because there’s actually a very complicated way it works that makes it fun. I know you should take that with a huge grain of salt coming from me. It’s like I have nothing to say, but it’s really amazing.”

With no fourth season in the works, here’s hoping the movie idea still comes to fruition. A Deadline article linked to Mancini’s Twitter account featured a statement from the creator: “I am saddened by the news that Chucky I won’t be back for a fourth season, but I’m so grateful for the killer three years we had. I’d like to thank UCP/Syfy/Peacock/Eat the Cat, our amazing Toronto-based cast and crew (the best in the business), and finally, to our amazing fans, a bloody hug. Your wonderful #RenewChucky campaign warmed Chucky’s cold heart. Chucky will be back! HE ALWAYS COMES BACK.”
