Jony Ive confirms he is collaborating with Sam Altman on a secret project
Rumors surfaced last year of a collaboration between former Apple designer Jony Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, but the two have so far kept quiet about it. In the profile of published this weekend, however, Ive confirms that his company LoveFrom is leading the design of the AI product being developed with Altman. Also on board are Tang Tan and Evans Hankey, both of whom hold major design roles at Apple.
So far there is a team of about 10 employees involved in the project, which is based in an office building in San Francisco that is one of the few buildings Ive bought in one area of the city, according to Times. But we still don’t know much about the product they are working on. The report describes Tan and Hankey’s wheelchairs inside LoveFrom’s buildings that were “covered in paper and cardboard with early product ideas that use AI to create a less disruptive computing experience than the iPhone.”
Since Ive left Apple in 2019 to start LoveFrom, the design company has been active again, but we haven’t seen much in the way of hardware – just . While the AI product seems imminent, there is currently no timeline for when it will begin to roll out.
