Netflix’s Devil May Cry Anime Hits the Jackpot in 2025
Another year, another Netflix event with sneak peeks of upcoming shows and movies. Last year there was a great reveal of the upcoming anime version Devil May Cryand we got another trailer during Netflix Geeked week, but with a twist: now we know it will finally arrive in April 2025.
This is a new look at the series—from which Castlevania producer Adi Shankar and animation by X-Men ’97’s Studio Mir—gives a better idea of what it’s going to do, and the series leads Dante. Devil Hunter sure looks and moves like he does in the games, but there’s a twist. In the anime, he is voiced Power Rangers alum Johnny Young Bosch, who again you play a kind of franchise partner, Nero. (Oh, and he’s Dante’s nephew, as we’ve officially learned Devil May Cry 5 back in 2019.) In the games, Dante is portrayed by Reuben Langdon, but this iteration of the character is on the younger end, so what’s the deal there?
Franchise fans have noted that the series may have borrowed from the Tokyopop franchise Devil May Cry 3. In that, Dante takes a contract to find a girl named Alice who was kidnapped by a demon with her childhood doll. Said demon passes “The White Rabbit,” and sure enough, the carriage ends with a white rabbit, drinking tea and sitting next to a toy doll. The manga was split into three parts (only two are released), and aside from that joke, the anime otherwise seems to be its own thing. It’s still not entirely clear if this is meant to tie in with the games or be in their separate lineup, but we’ll find out soon enough. Devil May Cry going down in April.
