He’s not the first fictional character to get a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame—Bugs Bunny, Kermit the Frog, and Mickey Mouse are just a few who got there first. But Batman is first a hero that he may receive honor, by placing that means he will be placed next to you Batman TV star Adam West and Batman co-creator Bob Kane. (The star was first announced in 2019 for a 2020 launch, but it’s finally becoming a reality now.)
Batman’s star will be added to the boulevard of fame on Thursday, September 26; 2,790 stars, so it’s time for the hero to cut. (You can imagine that Superman’s publishers are working overtime to get him next on the list.)
According to a DC press release, DC president, publisher, and chief artistic officer Jim Lee, along with DC senior vice president and general manager Anne DePies, will be at the event—as will “Batman” ( it doesn’t matter where the costume will be represented, but the classic look feels like the right choice). In addition, “Batman will be awarded the Guinness World Records title for being the first hero with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” the latest Guinness World Record to be awarded to the character, as well as being “the most popular comic book character.” ” in live movies, among others.
Fame fans take note: “In partnership with Funko, a day-long fan event on September 26 will take place alongside the Hollywood Walk of Fame event at Funko Hollywood (6201 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028). Jim Lee will participate in a special one-hour meet and greet and sign for Batman fans at Funko Hollywood from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm The audience for this special signing will be limited to fans who have received a wristband.
Wristbands will be distributed to the first 100 fans who purchase Batman merchandise at Funko Hollywood on Tuesday, September 24, two days before the event. No foreign product is allowed. One wristband per person. Wristbands are available on a first-come, first-served basis. On signing day, fans can start lining up at 9:00 am”
While the September 26th event will undoubtedly be packed, the press release also notes that “Warner Bros. Archives will once again create a curated pop-up museum of costumes and theatrics from Batman’s film and TV history at Funko Hollywood. Original props, iconic costumes—and more surprises—will allow audiences the rare opportunity to enjoy pieces of Batman’s cinematic history up close and personal. More details will be announced soon.”
It’s just a symbolic honor, but it is is something still cool. As io9 said back in 2019 when Batman’s Walk of Fame was first teased, “Congratulations, Batman. I hope no one defaces it with Crime Alley-themed graffiti the minute it’s put up… that would be unfortunate.”
