Thousands gather as Peru’s late president lies in state
Thousands of people in Peru have been paying their respects to the late President, Alberto Fujimori, who died at the age of 86 after serving time in prison for corruption and human rights abuses.
Long lines have formed outside the Ministry of Culture in Lima where Fujimori’s body lies.
Among the first to arrive is the incumbent President Dina Boluarte who has announced three days of national mourning.
Critics say the government has gone too far in honoring a man who was convicted of serious crimes while fighting the Shining Path rebels in the 1990s.
