Eddie Hearn Denies Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis That He Was Kicked Out Of The Game Room

Eddie Hearn says Matchroom reports releasing Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis from his contract are false. Hearn says they plan to keep IBF welterweight champion Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs) for life and won’t let him go “in a million years.”

The announcement of Boots’ next fight in November could come this Saturday or early next week. Hearn says he is talking to IBF executive Karen Chukhadzhian about setting up the fight, which he hopes will take place in Philadelphia.

This week, there were posts on Twitter about Matchroom planning to cut Ennis. Hearn says he was asked by several media sources if the Tweet was true, and he said it was not true.

Boxing fans were wondering if Hearn was still willing to promote Boot after he failed to negotiate with WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. Norman was begging, but he chose not to.

Some fans see Hearn’s reluctance to invest $500K to promote Ennis’ career as a sign that he is unsure about promoting him compared to other fighters with arguably lesser talent, such as Shakur Stevenson, who he has been praising and reportedly paying. When Hearn lost his IBF bout to Boot Ennis, Karen Chukhadzhian last week, it was further proof that he doesn’t like Jaron and shows no interest in promoting him as a villain.

Hearn says the plan is for Boot Ennis to stay at 147 to try and collect all the belts. That’s where Ennis intends to stay rather than move up to 154, full apex predators that would be dangerous for him.

After all the compliments Hearn showered on Bhuti’s head, it’s a shame he went with 35-year-old Avanesyan instead of Brian Norman, Terence Crawford, Mario Barrios, or Eimantas Stanionis.

If Hearn is going to be a cheapskate when it comes to coming up with the dough to attract top players to face Boot, what’s the point of keeping him in the match room?

If Hearn is going to turn Boots into a star, he’s going to need to invest in his career. “That’s not what they said in the Tweet. They said, ‘Matchroom is looking to release Boots Ennis.’ No. We have a good relationship with Botsi and Bozy. “We got this [Karen] Chukhadzhian’s fight, which is a rematch,” said Hearn. “It wasn’t what we expected, but we see the future at 147 pounds. We want to make sure you can find those combinations. There is no guarantee that Norman, Stanionis, and Barrios will fight with Boots, but I would like to give it a run.”

If Hearn thinks Brian Norman Jr’s price next year will be less than the $2.2 million he’s asking for this time, he’s kidding himself. If anything, Norman Jr. he’ll want more money, and Standard will kick himself for disagreeing with $2.2M. Norman defends his WBO title against Derrieck Cuevas on November 8th on ESPN+, and if he looks like gold in that fight, his value will rise, and Hearn will be in for a very difficult fight to put together.

I can’t blame Hearn for not wanting Boot Ennis to move up to 154 because that would be a dangerous position for him, especially because of his lack of defense. They hit hard for a heavily tagged fighter like Ennis is used to in his fights.

If Ennis moves up to 154, there’s a good chance that predators in that category will make life difficult for him. Ennis will have to change his fighting style to become a boxer in order to develop as a junior middleweight.

“We want to continue the success we had in Philadelphia,” said Hearn when asked if he would like Boots to secure Karen in Germany, as Matchroom lost money to Chukhadzhian’s promoters. “So, we’ll have to see. We are talking to Chukhadzhian’s team again. We will have to see what happens next.”
