Shaking off the disappointment of his tough US court season, Carlos Alcaraz led Spain to the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory Friday against France’s Ugo Humbert in Valencia.
“The level I played from the beginning to the last ball, I was very focused, very intense. It was probably one of the best games I have played this year and after my last month I need these kinds of games,” said Thembi. World No. 3 in the PIF ATP rankings.
Earlier in the day, Roberto Bautista Agut scored a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Arthur Fils, who served the match 5-4 in the second set.

Spain, who are six-time Davis Cup champions, won 3-0 against the Czech Republic on Wednesday. A win for Australia on Sunday will see them finish top of Group B.
Australia, on the way to the Final 8 with Spain, has also won twice: beating Czechia 3-0 and France 2-1.
Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori led Italy to a 2-1 win against Belgium after a decisive 7-6 (2), 7-5 victory over Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen on Friday in Bologna. Italy, the 2023 champions, now top Group A with a 2-0 lead.
After Matteo Berrettini and Zizou Bergs shared the win earlier in the day, the tie was decided by the double rubber. Berrettini got Italy off to a good start with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Alexander Blockx in the first singles match of the day. He saw his fifth consecutive win for Italy in the Davis Cup. Bergs responded by beating Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-0, avenging his loss to World No. 32 at the US Open two weeks ago.
Led by Filippo Volandri, Italy won 2-1 against Brazil on Wednesday. Despite the absence of Jannik Sinner, the defending champions will advance to the Final 8 if they beat the Netherlands on Sunday.
Belgium will face Brazil on Saturday as they look to stay in contention to advance to the Final 8. Belgium beat the Netherlands 2-1 on Tuesday. The Dutch, who are also hoping to progress to Malaga, saw their only win by beating Brazil 2-1 on Thursday.
