Iga Swiatek has pressed a break on his return to tournament tennis.

The defending Beijing champion has withdrawn from the China Open due to “personal issues.”

“Due to my personal issues, I am forced to withdraw from the China Open in Beijing,” said Swiatek in a statement. “I am very sorry as I had an amazing time playing and winning this tournament last year and I was looking forward to getting back there.

“I know the fans will find some great tennis there and I’m sorry I won’t be a part of it this time.”

The China Open is set for September 25-October 6.

American Jessica Pegula knocked out Swiatek in the US Open quarterfinals 6-2, 6-4 earlier this month.

That loss came three weeks after Aryna Sabalenka beat Swiatek 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals in Cincinnati.

Last October, Swiatek went 12 out of 13 sets to take the China Open tournament. Swiatek swept straight sets over Coco Gauff in the semifinals and Liudmila Samsononova in the final to win Beijing.
