Edgar Berlanga Brings New York Power to Canelo Fight

Edgar Berlanga has nothing to lose as he faces United super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez on September 14 in their main event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) will not be given another chance against Canelo (61-2-2, 39 KOs) if he does not win or earn a draw.

Most fans believe that Canelo chose Berlanga because he is not a threat based on his performance against a limited team. It’s up to Berlanga to prove the fans wrong by beating Canelo and getting confused again.

“I am interested in this fight and how he faced it. Berlanga delivered a great game of trash talk,” said Chris Algieri on Probox TV’s YouTube channel. “He hasn’t shown this depth in that aspect of his game until now, in the biggest exhibition of his career, under the bright lights he’s been under.”

As a New Yorker, Berlanga’s ability to talk trash came from his upbringing. When you live in New York City, criticism becomes second nature. Berlanga is in his position, off the leash in attack mode.

“He’s stood up to these press conferences and made it fun to listen to these press conferences, which are usually boring, especially when you’re fighting a legend like Canelo. “I remember Jaime Munguia and Canelo, who looked like they had the gift of hugging when they held press conferences,” said Algieri.

The difference between Berlanga’s press conferences and Munguia’s is like night and day. Munguia did very little to attract interest in his latest fight against Canelo on May 4. He was polite and didn’t talk trash at all. I think that hurts the promotion of war. Canelo couldn’t promote the contest on his own without receiving static from Munguia, and ultimately that hurt the PPV numbers.

“We don’t get that. There’s no love lost between these two, and it’s coming mostly from Berlanga’s side. That makes it interesting. In addition, the fact that it is very large. You see these boys standing next to each other. You can see the size difference. You can see the vitality of Berlanga’s youth, listen, he has nothing to lose,” said Algieri.

Berlanga’s size may play a role in this fight if he doesn’t eat because he has looked like a light heavyweight on fight nights in his recent fights. Down to 168 this week, Berlanga looks slimmer, and you could tell he was going to look slimmer this Friday on the scale. If he can get the weight off and get it back without getting wasted, it could be an interesting fight as long as it lasts.

Nothing To Lose, Everything To Gain

“The boy knows how to punch. He’s big, he knows how to punch, and he has nothing to lose. You speak the right way. If he can get the right moves, he can make this fight interesting in the first few rounds. “We’ll see what happens after that because, obviously, the biggest difference here is the experience and the world-class opposition that Canelo has had throughout his life,” said Algieri.

Berlanga knows that there is nothing he can throw at him because he will not get a second chance from Canelo if he is beaten. That’s the only guy at 168 that Berlanga can make a lot of money fighting unless David Benavidez wants to come back to the division to fight him. I don’t know why he will do it if Berlanga is coming off a loss.

“Overall, I think it’s an interesting fight, and I think it’s going to be more interesting than people were praising it when it was first announced,” said Algieri.

It could be an interesting fight if Berlanga can survive the big teams that Canelo will be hitting him with early on. Canelo will unload on Berlanga if he starts fast and hits him with something big that annoys him or if he finds a competitive spirit in the gear.

It may be late if Berlanga comes out of the gate quickly because Canelo will be hitting him with unheard of shots.
