Boxing results: Elijah Pierce Defeats Jose Sanmartin
At Overtime Elite Arena, Atlanta, GA, Friday on DAZN in the main event, WBO #3 ranked Elijah Pierce defeated Jose ‘El General’ Sanmartin for the vacant WBA Continental Americas Super Bantamweight title.
In the OTX C4 Super Welterweight Championship, WBA Continental Americas Super Welterweight champion Brandon ‘Cannon’ Adams defeated 2020 Olympian Francisco ‘Bebu’ Daniel Veron.
Elijah Pierce, 20-2 (6), defeated Jose ‘El General’ Sanmartin, 35-9-1 (21), to claim the vacant WBA Continental Americas Super Bantamweight title.
In the first two rounds, Pierce dominated Sanmartin, who, with his hands up, stepped into his counter punch. In the third round, Sanmartin finally started landing punches, although they weren’t enough to win the round.
Pierce dropped Sanmartin with a low punch in the fourth round and dominated the rest of the round. In the final seconds of the fifth round, Sanmartin landed a right followed by a flurry of punches. From the sixth to the ninth, Pierce worked hard on Sanmartin. Both had moments in the tenth and final round, with Pierce taking the round and the fight.
Scores were 97-93 twice and 99-91.
In the co-feature, WBA Continental Americas Super Welter champion Brandon ‘Cannon’ Adams, 24-3 (16), defeated 2020 Olympian Francisco ‘Bebu’ Veron, 14-1-1 (10) over ten rounds.
In the first two rounds, Veron knocked out Adams. In the third to sixth rounds, Adams caught Veron and was injured.
In the final seconds of the seventh round, Adams drove Veron into the ropes earning 8 points from referee Ansel Stewart. In the eighth round, Veron finally got the upper hand, but it was short-lived, as Adams hurt him and held him for another round.
In the ninth round a body right from Adams in the first minute hurt Veron as he held the rest of the way. In the tenth and final round, Adams made it clear that he was the winner from the third round.
Scores 95-94, 98-91, and 96-93.
Super Welter Andreas ‘Katz’ Katzourakis, 14-0 (10), won a split decision over Robert ‘Tiger’ Terry, 12-1-1 (4) over 10 rounds.
In the first four rounds, Katzourakis kept coming forward, battling Terry. In the fifth through eighth rounds, Katzourakis began attacking the body as he caught up to the speedy Terry.
In the ninth round Katzouakis was slightly affected outside of his left eyebrow although he took the round. The tenth and final round was the best round of the fight as Katzouakis was bleeding from his mouth.
The referee is Malik Walee. Score 98-92, Katz, 98-93, Terry and 98-92 Katz.
Super Feather Maliek ‘Mayhem’ Montgomery, 19-0 (17) stopped two-time WBC Interim Featherweight champion Oscar ‘El Guerrero’ Escandon, 27-8 (18) at 1:39 of the second round of an eight-round scheduled .
In the first round, Montgomery defeated Escandon, its best blow coming after the bell. In the second round, Montgomery’s left hook drew a small amount of blood from Escandon’s nose, and he dropped him with a countout combination by referee Ansel Stewart.
Super Middle Donte Lane, 4-0 (4), scored his first fourth round stoppage over Noah Kidd, 8-11-2 (5), at 1:52 of the first four scheduled rounds.
In the first round, midway through, Lane landed a right hook to the head, knocking Kidd out of Referee Malik Walee’s count.
Super Feather Gustavo ‘El Dorado’ Rivera Rio, 10-1 (7), is coming off his first loss and the canvas won by hitting his own, defeating Carlos Dos Santos Rocha, 3-6 (2) over six rounds.
With half a minute left in the first round, Rocha landed a counter to the chin, dropping Rivera Rio by an 8 count from referee Ansel Stewart. In the last minute of the second round, Rivera Rio dropped Rocha, his nose bleeding from the front, with a left to the midsection for an 8 count by Referee Stewart.
In the third through fifth rounds, despite being hit hard by rights from Rocha, Rivera Rios pressed the action, taking every round.
In the sixth and final round, in the last minute, Rivera Rios, frustrated that Rocha dragged him to the clinic after winning from the second round, threw him to the canvas.
Scores were 58-54 x 3.
