Maciej Sulecki says super middleweight contender Diego Pacheco has not been tested during his six-year professional career. Pacheco vs. Sulecki will headline this Saturday, August 31, live on DAZN at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Los Angeles.
Sulecki: Pacheco is untested
Sulecki (32-2 12 KOs) will be the first test of Pacheco’s career in their 12-rounder. Promoter Eddie Hearn hopes Pacheco, 23, looks good as he tries to quickly position him against 168-lb champion Canelo Alvarez to catch him before he retires.
With David Benavidez and David Morrell moving up to 175, Pacheco (21-0, 17 KOs) doesn’t have to worry too much about the competition or fighters he can be pressured into fighting. Pacheco is not in the talent-wise category of the two.
Now that they’re gone, Pacheco is one of the few options Canelo can use to fight once he finishes his next title defense against Edgar Berlanga on September 14.
“Diego Pacheco has not been tested in big fights, big challenges. He’s a guy to watch out for. He is a guy who makes mistakes, and we have to take advantage of those mistakes,” said Maciej Sulecki on YouTube channel DAZN Boxing about Pacheco. “He hasn’t been tested yet.”
Benefit of Sulecki’s Experience
Sulecki, 35, has fought Demetrius Andrade, Daniel Jacobs, Hugo Centeno, Derrick Findley, Grzegorz Proksa, and Jack Culcay. In terms of experience, Sulecki doesn’t have that much of an advantage over Pacheco. The famous fighters that Sulecki has fought were older guys who were nearing the end of their careers. He still lost to Andrade and Jacobs, even though they were out of his mind.
“He’s a young, strong fighter with ambition, but he’s never been in the ring with an experienced fighter like me,” Sulecki said of Pacheco. “Until now, he has been fighting with rivals from the second and third leagues. However, I can say that he is good and we will see how he will face a difficult test for me.”
Pacheco has been fighting little opposition, but he has a good excuse. He is only 23 years old, so it would be crazy for his promoters to put him in a dangerous position all this time.
“I am sure that I can control myself. Great skills, strong jaw, great character, and willingness to fight,” said Sulecki.

“I’m asking for all the big fights. I’m in the top ten. I want to get those top ten guys to win my title shot. Five years from now, I’ll be dominating the 168-lb division and hopefully undisputed in the weight class. That is my goal,” said Pacheco. “Every fight is important. I take every fight as if it is my last fight.”
It is doubtful that Pacheco will ever dominate the super middleweight division. Even when Canelo retires, other talented guys are likely to beat Pacheco. Osleys Iglesias and Christian Mbilli will be very difficult for Pacheco if they stay at super middleweight.
“I am putting my best effort into all the training centers to make sure everything goes well. I’m just stuck on getting this W,” said Pacheco.
