Two are trapped after an avalanche in an Icelandic glacier

Two people were trapped after an avalanche while visiting a cave in a glacier in Iceland, police said.
First responders received a call shortly before 15:00 local time (16:00 BST) on Sunday about an avalanche on the Breidamerkurjökull glacier in the south of the country.
A group of 25 people had a tour with a guide at that time.
Four people were hit by snow. Two were rescued with serious injuries, while rescuers were still searching for two others as of 22:00 BST, according to local media.
Local media reported that 200 people are busy with the rescue operation which will continue until the night.
The police said in their statement to the media that around 18:00 the ice cave collapsed.
However, the Icelandic newspaper Visir quoted Sveinn Kristján Rúnarsson, the police chief, as saying that people were actually standing in the gorge between the mouths of the cave when the ice wall collapsed.
Breidamerkurjökull is the so-called tongue of ice that extends from the great glacier Vatnajökull to the bay Jökulsárlón. The tongue of ice is famous for its ice caves, and groups offer tours.
