Mayweather Promotions Prospect Jursly Vargas Will Face Bryan Carrillo

At first glance, the training photos on social media look like a video of Gervonta “Tank” Davis, but it’s Jursly “The Gorilla” Vargas, a 20-year-old Dominican boxer who will face Bryan Carrillo (3-1, 2 KOs) on Saturday night August 24th at Arena CDMX in -Mexico City, Mexico.

Mayweather Promotions’ undefeated prospect Jursly Vargas (2-0, 2 KOs) is an aggressive, hard-hitting fighter in the early stages of his professional boxing career. Saturday night, Mayweather vs. Gotti III prelims, Vargas plans to show his skills.

A native of Curacao who also spent his time growing up in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Jursly Vargas began playing combat sports as a kickboxer. At the age of 16, he switched to boxing and participated in youth tournaments in Amsterdam, Germany and England.

In November 2022, Jursly Vargas made his pro debut in the Netherlands against Yanko Naydenov. In the opening round, Vargas hit Naydenov with a hard right hand, causing Naydenov to do a 180-degree turn.

When the action resumed, Jursly Vargas took out Yanko Naydenov with a powerful shot. The heartbreaking knockout became an instant classic as the KO video went viral.

Two weeks after his first fight, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather contacted Jursly Vargas. Two weeks later, Vargas signed with Mayweather Promotions and moved to Las Vegas.

By moving to Vargas, Jursly Vargas was able to find next-level sparring. After sharpening his tools, Vargas was ready to step back inside the squared circle. In March 2024, Vargas moved to 2-0 with a first round knockout victory over Darrick Yates.

Now, Jursly Vargas is ready to take advantage of his opportunity to be on the opening card of Mayweather vs Gotti III by offering an alternative to the highlight reel. Vargas is a boxer who wants to set himself the goal of fighting for a world title at the age of 21.

Before he can focus on his final goal, Jursly Vargas, a boxer with two fights to his credit and two first-round knockouts, must hold his own on Saturday night in Mexico City.
