Since 2016, Power Rangers has been very much alive in the world of comics. A variety of creative teams have managed to tell great stories over the past eight years, but now that the original saga is over, that means the entire slate is completely wiped clean. And what better way to fill the gap than with new comics and new blood?
Before the weekend, IGN helped Boom close the curtain Power Rangers Prime, brand new joke by The Mighty Morphin writer Melissa Flores and Iron Fist singer Michael Yg who aims to provide a “completely fresh start” for his entry The guards business. The book will focus on Lauren Shiba (the second Red Ranger from her Power Rangers Samurai) as he is hunted by a group of Eltarians. While his actions eventually lead him to Angel Grove, Flores said the town is “not [the way] we miss you,” and the lack of Zordon is also noted. “They’re going to come in different ways, not the ways you might expect,” Flores said. Unlike the previous Boom Power Rangers jokes, Power Rangers Prime it will be its own thing in its own right, rather than serving as an extension of the show. Editor Alyssa Gronowitz said that “earth creation” was always in the cards after the “Darkest Hour” arc, both to give readers a new opportunity to reconnect.
