Matsuyama withdraws from the BMW Championship due to a back injury

Hideki Matsuyama withdrew from the BMW Championship before the start of the second round on Friday due to a back injury.
Matsuyama has dealt with back and neck injuries in the past few years.
The 2021 Masters champion missed a short birdie putt on the 18th hole and carded a 5-under 67 on Thursday at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado. He sat behind leader Keegan Bradley after the first lap.
Matsuyama, 32, recorded his 10th career PGA Tour title by winning last week’s opening playoff, the FedEx St. Jude Championship. That victory allowed him to move up to third place in the FedEx Cup.
Matsuyama, from Japan, also won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
