Biden’s State of the Union Address Makes Unreasonable Claims About His Gaza Policy – Global Issues
SAN FRANCISCO, USA, Aug 21 (IPS) – A remark from George Orwell — “those who control the present, who control the past and those who control the past control the future” — is very much in line with how President Biden talks about Gaza. when he spoke at the Democratic Alliance meeting on Monday night.
His words fit into a pattern of messages now in its eleventh month, portraying the US government as relentlessly seeking peace, while providing weapons and bombs that have allowed Israel to continue killing civilians.
“We will continue to work, bring the hostages home, end the war in Gaza, and bring peace and security to the Middle East,” Biden told cheering delegates. “As you know, I wrote a peace agreement in Gaza. A few days ago, I put forward a proposal that brings us closer to doing that than we have done since October 7.”
It was a trip to another area of political intrigue from a president who had allowed six days for another $20 billion worth of weapons to be shipped to Israel. However, Biden’s guests in the convention hall reacted in an astonishing way.
Applause erupted as Biden continued: “We are working around the clock, my secretary of state, to prevent a full-scale war and reunite the hostages with their families, and provide health care and food aid to Gaza now, to end human suffering. of the Palestinian people and finally, finally, bring a ceasefire and end this war.”
At Chicago’s United Center, the president beamed as he claimed to be a peacemaker despite a history of facilitating the systematic killing of tens of thousands of Palestinians.
Orwell would understand. Politics has been rocking America’s top leaders, saying they want peace while aiding and abetting genocide. Habitual delusions about the past set the pattern for conducting such delusions in the future.
Therefore, working within the paradigm defined by Orwell, Biden has the power to control the present, strives to control the narrative of the past, and wants to make everything seem normal, foreshadowing the future.
The delegation’s eagerness to appreciate Biden’s vague narrative about his administration’s policies in Gaza was in a broader context — much to the chagrin of the president.
A few hours before the opening of the meeting, Peter Beinart released a short video story that is waiting for sincere praise. “I don’t think that when you analyze the office of the president or anyone, you are following what is happening in Gaza,” he said.
“I mean, if you’re a liberal, you believe that genocide is the worst thing that a country can do, and the worst thing that your country can do is if your country is weaponizing genocide.”
Beinart continued: “And it’s no longer an argument that this qualifies as a genocide. I’ve read an academic book on this. I don’t see any real human rights law scholars saying it doesn’t really exist. . . . If you’re going to say something about Joe Biden, the president, Joe Biden, the man, you have to consider what Joe Biden, the president, Joe Biden, the man, has done against Gaza.
It is the core of his legacy. It is the core of his character. And if you don’t do that, you’re saying that Palestinian life doesn’t matter, or at least it doesn’t matter on this particular day, and I think that’s barbaric. I don’t think we can ever say that the lives of a certain group don’t matter because it’s disturbing to talk about them at some point. ”
Underscoring the appalling breakdown of morals that took place on the convention floor was the joyous display of intergenerational glee as the president praised and embraced his offspring. Joe Biden walked down the stage holding the hand of his beautiful little grandson, a precious child no more important than any of the thousands of children the president helped Israel kill.
