The Creators of Evil Definitely Feels Like Hope Will Come Back

In the sadness of Bad fans, including here at io9, the understated but always entertaining horror drama wrapped its fourth season today, airing its final four-episode farewell on Paramount+. But while the ending felt very satisfying, the episode left things in a place where, you know, if the rest the streamer would download the program, the story can continue.

Speaking to Deadline, Bad creators Robert and Michelle King unfortunately had no big news to share about the show’s future. However, they gave a different feeling to put some positive vibes in the world. Robert King told the trade “it feels like there will be two more seasons … we wish we could do more … because it’s cool. It’s a fun idea, fun characters.”

He also suggested the reason for the cancellation of this program. “If we are victims of anything, it is time. Obviously, since the strike, but also with Wall Street’s reassessment of the business, there has been a change in attitude towards things. And obviously, as you may know, with Paramount+ there’s some analysis they’re doing and the decision was made to end the show. And I think the popularity of the show didn’t suffer until some of those decisions were made.”

While Michelle King commented “We’re really happy that, actually, it’s popular on Netflix, that it got a ton of viewers. You know, what you want is for your work to be seen,” both Kings refused to comment if there were any meetings they had about taking the show to another location.

In the end, he said, “I felt proud of the show and thankful that we got these last four episodes to land the plane.

Robert King also revealed that as creators, they prefer to leave a few dangling threads at the end. “I don’t think we’re wrapping things up in a black or pretty bow. It’s always, ‘Okay, let the audience think what happens next week and next month.’ The problem is that if you cut it, there is no way for the listeners to fill in the gaps you have left.”

If you have watched “Fear of the End,” the Bad season finale, be sure to head over to Deadline to read more of the interview; Kings goes into interesting detail about, uh, with the devil revealed in the final scene. Bad seasons one through four, including four bonus episodes, are now streaming on Paramount+.
