Who is lost and saved?

A rescue operation is underway off the coast of Sicily after the British-flagged luxury yacht Bayesian capsized in bad weather on Monday morning.

One man, who was the cook of the ship, has died and his body has been found, according to the Civil Defense in Sicily.

15 people have been rescued from the boat, while six are still missing.

Specialist divers from the Italian fire brigade resumed the search on Tuesday morning.

Six unknown people have all been called.

Among them is British businessman Mike Lynch, who recently came to the fore in a fraud case in the US.

Several people on the boat, including those missing, were involved in his latest case and there were reports that the boat trip was a celebration of Mr Lynch’s release.

Mr Lynch is a technology entrepreneur who has been dubbed by some as “Britain’s Bill Gates”.

Raised in Essex, he went on to study at Cambridge University, before founding the software company Autonomy in 1996.

The 59-year-old made his fortune by selling the company to US technology giant Hewlett-Packard in 2011 for $11bn (£8.6bn).

Mr Lynch was embroiled in a ten-year legal battle following the discovery. He was acquitted in the US in June of multiple fraud charges, for which he was facing twenty years in prison.

He told BBC Radio 4 in August that he believed he was only able to prove his innocence in an American court because he was wealthy enough to pay the huge legal fees involved.

“You don’t have to have money to protect yourself as a British citizen,” he said.

Mr Lynch was traveling with his daughter Hannah, who was also absent.

It is reported that the 18-year-old is the youngest of Mr Lynch’s two daughters.

He had just completed his A-levels and secured a place to study English at Oxford University, according to the Times.

Chris Morvillo is the lawyer who represented Mr. Lynch in his US case. Since 2011, he has been a partner at the Clifford Chance law firm in New York.

His biography on the firm’s website says he served as an assistant district attorney for the southern district of New York from 1999 to 2005.

During his tenure, he worked on the criminal investigation surrounding the 2001 World Trade Center attacks.

American jewelery designer Neda Morvillo, Mr Morvillo’s wife, is also missing.

Mr. Morvillo’s employer, Clifford Chance, confirmed the news.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the law firm said: “We are shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic incident.”

“Our thoughts are with our partner, Christopher Morvillo, and his wife, Neda, who are among the missing.”

Jonathan Bloomer is the chairman of the bank Morgan Stanley International and the insurance company Hiscox.

The 70-year-old Briton studied at Imperial College London and has served on numerous corporate boards.

Mr Bloomer appeared in court as a witness for Mr Lynch, according to the Financial Times. Media reports suggest that the two are good friends.

Aki Hussain, chief executive of Hiscox, which Mr Bloomer takes over from 2023, said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic incident.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected, especially our chairman, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Judy, who are among the missing.”

Judy, Jonathan Bloomer’s wife, is also among the six missing people.

Mrs Bloomer is listed as a former director of property development company Change Real Estate along with her husband.

She has been called a “brilliant champion of women’s health” by a charity she has worked closely with.

Mrs Bloomer has been a trustee and supporter of the gynecological cancer research charity Eve Appeal for over 20 years.

The charity’s CEO, Athena Lamnisos, said she was “shocked to hear the news that our dear friend and her husband Jonathan are among the missing”.

“Our thoughts are with the families of Judy and Jonathan, and all those who are still waiting for news after this tragic event,” he added in a statement.

Among the 15 people rescued are nine members of the boat’s crew.

This means that all the members of the group are considered to be the cook, who the local authorities say is dead.

Eight of the 15 rescued were taken to the hospital.

A local British mother named Charlotte Golunski was sailing with her partner and baby girl. All three were rescued from the boat.

In the interview, he described holding his infant daughter over the sea to save her from drowning.

Ms. Golunski is a partner at Mr. Lynch’s firm, Invoke Capital, where she has worked since 2012, according to her LinkedIn profile.

The Times reported that he had worked for Autonomy, which is the company involved in Mr. Lynch’s court case.

Another lawyer, Ayla Ronald, was also rescued along with her colleagues.

The New Zealander works for Clifford Chance, where Mr Morvillo is a partner, and was part of Mr Lynch’s legal team at his trial in June.

His father he told the Telegraph that he was “invited to sail because of the success of a recent United States court case”.

Angela Bacares, Mr Lynch’s wife and Hannah Lynch’s mother, is also among those rescued.

On Monday, Ms. Bacares was using a wheelchair after suffering a foot injury, according to the Repubblica newspaper.
