Prepare to rule the world when Civilization VII arrives in February 2025

Firaxis Games has announced the release date and shared gameplay Sid Meier’s Civilization VII at Gamescom 2024. The strategy game will be launched on February 11, 2025. It has been a long wait for fans since Civilization VI returned in 2016, and today’s announcements at Gamescom mark a few departures from the storied empire-building series.

First, the game will be released on all platforms. It will be available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox and Nintendo Switch at launch. Previous entries in the series have come to consoles after release, and sometimes with rough ports. I hope this approach means a better console experience Civil VII.

There are also some big changes to gameplay that the team highlighted during the Gamescom live stream. In previous Civilization games, you would choose one famous leader from history and sit with them in a situation, guiding their one empire through decades and centuries. With Civil VIIyou will choose a new civilization at the beginning of each year that will continue to build on what you have already achieved.

Your choices at the start of a new era will vary depending on the context of history and what you’ve already done with your current civilization. The full game will have three eras – Ancient Era, Exploration Era and Modern Era – or you can choose to play a single age mode. With more variety, players will be able to mix and match, choosing from a whole list of leaders that they may associate with historically negative places. This should bring forth a whole new series of interesting and fun scenarios for players to build.
