The He-Man Movie Gets Its Teela From Camila Mendes
Mattel has been trying for years to find out He-Man the film is getting off the ground, with Amazon MGM stepping in to help in May. During the months Nicolas Galitzine played a major role, Riverdale star Camila Mendes was added to play one of his important partners.
By deadline, i Riverdale alum will play Teela, captain of the royal guard and close friend of He-Man’s alter-ego, Prince Adam. (And depending on the show, she ends up being his favorite.) In the 1987 film, she was cast as Chelsea, and has been voiced by Sarah Michelle Gellar, Melissa Benoist, and Kimberly Brooks in recent animated films. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Mendes’ casting was recent, and she won the role opposite it Black Adam Quintessa Swindell, Barbie Alexandra Shipp, and Clara Rugaard (Black Mirror). It’s been a busy 2024 for Mendes: he’s starred in three movies (and executive produced two of them), and he recently landed a lead role in Sony’s upcoming reboot. I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Details about the upcoming movie—titled Kings of the Earth, like the ’87 movie—they’re in the dark right now. But the movie is said to keep the general idea of the series, where Adam from Eternia uses the Power Sword to transform into a heroic hunk and fight Skeletor and his forces of evil. Travis Knight, who is best known for himself A bee and Laika Kubo and two strings, will direct the image.
Masters of the Universe will be released in theaters on June 5, 2026.
