More than 1.4 million Ram 1500 trucks have been recalled to fix a defect in the anti-lock brake system

Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, has issued a recall for the 2019 and 2021-2024 Ram 1500 trucks due to a software problem in the anti-lock brake system. The bug can cause the anti-lock brake system to “disable the electronic stability control system,” which could increase the risk of a crash, according to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall affects approximately 1.46 million vehicles worldwide, reports, most of which are in the US. So far, there are no known injuries or crashes related to this issue, according to Reuters. If a problem arises, owners should see the ABS, ESC, Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning lights come on when starting the truck. Per Reutersthe software issue does not affect foundation braking.

NHTSA says notices will be mailed to owners in early October, and they will need to bring their trucks to a dealership to have the ABS control module software updated. Currently, the vehicles do not meet the federal vehicle safety standard for electronic stability control systems, NHTSA said. If you’re not sure if a recall applies to your truck, you can plug your information into a recall search tool to find out.
