Mufasa, the father of The King is the KingSimba, had a colorful and challenging life before becoming the prominent king of the African savannah. His journey will be explored in detail in the prequel Mufasa: King Kingand as the new trailer for Barry Jenkins’ holiday release promises, there will be plenty of danger, courage, and humor along the way.
Here is the official synopsis: “Mufasa: King King asks Rafiki to relay Mufasa’s tale to the young lioness Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, Timon and Pumbaa borrowing their schtick. Told in a nutshell, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned lamb, lost and alone until he meets a compassionate lion named Taka—heir to a royal bloodline. A chance meeting sets off an extended journey for a group of misfits in search of their future—their bonds will be tested as they work together to fend off a menacing and deadly enemy.”
Mufasa: King King It has a great cast, led by Aaron Pierre as Mufasa, Kelvin Harrison Jr. who plays Taka, John Kani as Rafiki, and Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner as Pumbaa and Timon. Blue Ivy Carter sings Kiara, with Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala. Other actors present include Tiffany Boone, Kagiso Lediga, Preston Nyman, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, and Donald Glover.
Mufasa: King King will roar into theaters on December 20.
