Top seed Jannik Sinner talks about Saturday’s busy schedule at the Omnium Banque National presented par Rogers, where the Italian will need to do double duty to reach the semifinals and continue his title defense.
The 22-year-old, among the few players to play two matches in one day because of the rain that canceled all of Friday’s play in Montreal, will play 15th-ranked Alejandro Tabilo no earlier than 12:30 p.m. on Court Central. The winner will return to the same court before 7pm to face fifth-seeded Andrey Rublev or quarter-finalist Brandon Nakashima.
Following Sinner and Tabilo on Court Central will be the third round between second seed Alexander Zverev and 13th seed Holger Rune. Zverev and Rune are tied 1-1 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series, with the German winning their last match in five sets at this year’s Roland Garros.
Kei Nishikori looks to build on his run at the ATP Masters 1000 event, starting the day with a third-round match against Portugal’s Nuno Borges. The winner will close the evening session of Court Central with a quarter-final meeting against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or Matteo Arnaldi.
There are still three second-round matches to go, two of which have yet to start: fourth-seeded Hubert Hurkacz vs. Thanasi Kokkinakis and the All-American clash between Taylor Fritz and Sebastian Korda. The winner of Fritz and Korda will play sixth seed Casper Ruud after a well-deserved break.
In another second round match, Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech leads Flavio Cobolli 3-0, 15/15 against the Italian player. The winner will face either Hurkacz or Kokkinakis after a well-deserved rest on Saturday.
This year’s Canadian ATP Masters 1000 tournament started on Tuesday, one day later than usual, due to the Paris Olympics. The final is scheduled for Monday.
