Come to Hulu, Just Renew The Orville Already

Back in 2022, io9 wrote a post strongly encouraging, perhaps imploring, Hulu to renew. The Orville. The request came later The Orville: New Horizonsthe show’s long-awaited first season on Hulu (and later, Disney+) after two seasons on Fox.

There have been glimmers of hope over the years, including some encouraging words The Orville creator and star Seth MacFarlane, and recent (if unconfirmed) talk of an upcoming fourth season from star Scott Grimes.

There is also an officer The Orville Guide written by series writer and co-executive producer Andre Bormanis will be released next month, with the option of a new deluxe edition that comes with a poster exploring the title ship in detail and an array of Planetary Union pamphlets. That’s not something you offer unless you know there are fans willing to add theirs The Orville collections.

But in terms of any kind of official announcement—well, there is nothing. Hulu is now fully part of Disney+, with plenty of space-opera action to thank for star Wars content; The Orville actually early dates The MandalorianDisney+ live action premiere star Wars series, in two years, and may not look to invest in another sci-fi universe.

But the property The Orville is often compared to Star Trek; lest we forget, The Orville again Star Trek: Discoverythen the first new one A journey series over a decade, both premiered in September 2017. Adoption signed earlier this year after five seasons, but there are many more A journey projects coming soon to Paramount+, including new seasons of potentially very similar shows The Orville: animated Lower Decksagain The Original Series prequel Strange New Worlds. There is also, as reported later, live action Star Trek comedy in the works.

But when The Orville they may have normal DNA Star Trek—the uniform, the guiding principles of exploration and science, the intelligent crew, the holodeck, those Klingon-like Krill—the first to feel A journey the tribute soon revealed its sci-fi storytelling angle. As io9 said back in 2022, The Orville it offered a combination of high-level action, unique characters (including its main characters and an interesting, detailed alien civilization), technical prowess (the special effects, art direction, and music were consistently top-notch), and—this is a Seth MacFarlane show after all—a sense of humor. properly identified. Also: it had killer guest stars. You don’t see Dolly Parton in the middle Star Trek or star WarsIs it?

While the third season of The Orville concludes with a classic happy ending—the marriage of the two characters finally solidifies their unlikely but undeniable robot relationship—yet it feels like there’s more to the story. The fan demand is there, and from what MacFarlane said in interviews along the way, there’s still hope.

In early 2024, he told The Wrap that “there is no official death certificate The Orville. It’s still with us”—something like that he can says many comic books, but hopefully points to something more. And it doesn’t have to be on Hulu; change from Fox because New Horizons it may have taken a while, but it didn’t slow down when new episodes finally arrived.

If there is any kind The Orville announcement, by Avis, will surely bring you more when we read it. In the meantime, you can see what all the intergalactic fuss is about by streaming the first three seasons on Disney+.
