Google Gemini May Soon Ask About Your Taste In Music

It looks like Spotify is getting the AI treatment in Google Gemini. Android Authority he saw a Spotify extension of Google Gemini in the latest APK crack for the Google app (version 15.30.27.29). That means that soon, you’ll be able to control a music streaming app using Google’s AI platform. Gemini at the moment it has similar functionality to YouTube Music.

The extension will allow Gemini to play both music and podcasts. It also gives Gemini access to your Spotify playlists and history. That could mean AI could spark a conversation about your favorite music in the near future or maybe ask you why you’ve been playing “Duel of the Fates” from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace all morning. I’m more concerned about what “parts of your conversation and related information” you’ll be giving Gemini access to in order to play your latest ear.

Android Authority managed to get the extension working, and while it’s clearly not ready for prime time, it’s still amazing. When trying to play the song, the author noticed that the YouTube music card appears, but the selected song is playing on Spotify.

If you use the chatbot and type “@spotify” and the title of any song you want to listen to, it will play the music in the background instead of launching the app. I’m curious if the extension will pull up songs by word search or by humming lá “Name that Tune,” a feature that apps like Shazam are known for.

While it looks like the extension is close to being ready, we don’t know if this will be a free service or if the cost will be baked into a Spotify or Gemini subscription.
