Regardless of what we can find on Galaxy’s Edge, Star Tours will always be the ultimate crossover between Disney parks and star Wars. Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance may offer high-tech glitz and glamour, but there’s something about the endless evolution of Disney and Lucasfilm’s first big collaboration in the parks that still holds up all these years later. And now, that endurance is being celebrated with perhaps one of the coolest toys ever made for their park offerings.
Announced at next weekend’s D23 event (via Jedi News ), today Disney revealed a limited edition Starspeeder 3000 playset–in its original colors before it was changed. Star Tours: The Adventures Go ahead. Complete with two 3.75″ scale figures of R2-D2 and RX-24 (aka Captain Rex before the rest Captain Rex) from the “Droid Factory” line that Disney sells in the parks, the big car can sit. 25 figures inside once you’ve removed the upper part of the speedometer, in the seats including the elastic seat belts, installed inside.
But it doesn’t stop there! The Starspeeder 3000 also comes with a host of electronic features, including opening doors on both sides that play Star Tours chime, light display, and light features for headlights, thrusters, and cannons on the outside of the ship. Inside meanwhile, the front of the speeder has a 4.75 ″ LCD screen that can be opened with buttons to play authentic videos from various sequences of the journey itself, as well as phrases from Captain Rex.
At $300, it has a price tag on it, but honestly, the number of features and functions the playset has is enough to justify the price, competing with the range and scale of some of the luxury vehicles from Hasbro’s HasLab crowdfunding campaigns. And, with real Star Tours video on it, it’s cheaper than a vacation to a Disney park to catch it and experience the best star Wars ride from the comfort of your home!
Just 3,000 (you see what they did there) Starspeeders will be available when they debut at D23 on August 9, then online at the Disney Store from August 12.
