John Deere has announced that approximately 147,900 used tractors are recalled in the United States and an additional 16,800 in Canada due to a crash hazard. The recall affects John Deere 1023E, 1025R, and 2025R Compact Utility Tractors. The front bell ring on the brake linkage of these tractors can fail, which can cause the tractor to lose braking power and cause a crash.
This recall includes the 1023E, 1025R, and 2025R Compact Utility Tractors. Those tractors are green and yellow and are sold with open and closed channels. The model number and “John Deere” are printed on the hood. Serial numbers for recalled tractors can be found on the John Deere website at www.deere.com. Buyers can find the serial number on the frame, on the front right side of the tractor near the engine.
John Deere has received four reports of brake linkage failures. These incidents include one hospitalization, two tractor injuries, and minor tractor property damage.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled tractors and contact an authorized John Deere dealer to arrange a free repair. If buyers are unable to take the tractor to the dealer, John Deere will arrange to repair the unit at the buyer’s location. John Deere is contacting all known consumers directly to go through the repair process.

These tractors are being sold at authorized John Deere dealers nationwide from November 2017 through July 2024, with prices ranging from $12,700 to $21,000.
