Battlestar Galactica Reboot No Longer in the Works at Peacock

Somewhere, there is a faint sound of melancholy taking on “All Along the Watchtower” playing, because Battlestar Galactica fans aren’t getting enough of this 2009 remake of the show’s most recent finale any time soon. A new report says that the long-planned reboot of Peacock is off Mr. RobotSam Esmail—is no longer advancing to the broadcaster.

Variety broke the news, and reminds us that it’s new A battle star “It has never been officially ordered to play in the series and is still in development [since it was announced in 2019]. The details of the story have not been revealed, but the show is said to be set up in the same way as the 2003 one. Battlestar Galactica series.” In 2020, Michael Lesslie came on board as a player, but at the beginning of 2024 we learned that Derek Simonds. (Sinner) he had been cast in the role instead, and would serve as writer and executive producer.

At the time, we took the news that Simonds had joined Esmail’s project as a great sign that it was indeed happening. Now it seems not—at least not to the Peacock; Variety writes that “according to a person with knowledge of the situation, [studio] UCP will buy the project from other shops. “

Here is hope A battle star is finding a new home soon—perhaps at a broadcaster best known for sci-fi action?
