During SDCC 2024, DC Studios revealed a new look for its DC Elseworlds trailer with The Penguin.
Other worlds there Batman A universe of projects will exist separately, in a series of films that need not be linked, including Todd Phillips’ The Joker films. They won’t meet the canon of DC Studios coming up on projects like this Creature Commandos again Superman, they share the whole world.
The Penguin it will be one of the first sequels we’ll see come to life on the small screen. Reeves confirmed that the series came out of early ideas for his sequel Batman. “The first movie ends with the power of Gotham running out, and here’s this young man being looked down upon [who] no one thinks he can do it, right now he has this fire inside him. At the time I thought we could do that at the beginning of the next film.” However, he explained that the idea changed when he and executive producer Dylan Clark spoke with Casey Bloys and Sara Aubrey at HBO about expanding. Showrunner Lauren LeFranc also discussed how Oz’s main antagonist comes from Sofia Falcone, of Gotham’s famous crime family, played in The Penguin by Cristina Milioti. “Guys, have you seen her in the trailer that she is not the Sofia Falcone that you may be familiar with in the comics. Cristina then brought him to life in a truly extraordinary way.”
Farrell described Milioti’s actions as his greatest enemy in Gotham’s war as, “doing a dance with each other on a razor’s edge,” matching each other’s madness to control the city with their own power. Falcone has lost his power as Cobblepot—leaving Arkham after his father’s death—and will rekindle his past with Oz, which Mlioti described as a “historical and dynamic relationship.”
The panel concluded with the news that Batman the next episode will film next year, and Penguin will return after the events of the show. Batman the sequel has also set a release date of October 2, 2026.
The Penguin will be released on September 19 on HBO.
