Star Trek announces live-action comedy series

Unveiled in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, Star Trek: The Lower Decks‘ Tawny Newsome has teamed up with Justin Simien to create a new, live act Star Trek comedy series. The hour-long series doesn’t yet have a title or format, but Newsome and Simien will write the show Star Trek show Alex Kurtzman. Details were scant about the series at the panel, except that it will be set sometime in the 25th century–an unexplored time Star Trekonly Picard among the shows set during the early years of the 2400s, and that the series will follow foreign Federation actors, who work for clients at a resort, who discover that their daily activities are being recorded and broadcast to all quadrants.

No other details are available about the show, but like Lower Decks farewell at the end of this year, it is a testament to its strength as Star Trek comedy—something many fans didn’t expect to work when it was first introduced—that A journey now it’s in a place where it feels comfortable enough to explore the genre outside of the norm Star Trek it closes like a Starfleet ship. After all, A journey it’s meant to be bold, and this sounds like it could be a bold decision.
